ollowing red outline on map #3. This road goes through the prettiest parts of the Donau ( Danube) valley. The drive is around 300KM and will
take you about 4 hours. Allow extra time for the ferry across the Donau at Spitz, just past Durnstein.Durnstein:
Very small but very romantic village on route 3. Richard the Lion was held in the
ruined castle above it. No one knew the king was imprisoned. Legend has it that Blondel, the kings devoted minstrel devised a plan to find his master and drifted from castle to castle playing King Richard's favorite
songs. When Blondel reached Durnstein, he played and sang beneath the castle walls , Richard recognized the minstrel's voice and joined him in his singing, which led to his rescue.
A good place for lunch:
Weissenkirchen, 4 KM past Durnstein. If you took an early start, keep driving and have lunch in Sankt Florian, dominated by an Augustinian Abbey, one of the best in Austria.
Directions to the Hotel:
Autobahn A1 Ausfahrt (exit) Salzburg Mitte. Take Munchner Bundesstrasse till it turns into Ignaz Harrer Str. Make a right onto Augustiner Gasse and a Left onto Monchberg Park.

The Schloss is a story book castle with ivy covered walls, towers and turrets, nestled on a hill overlooking Salzburg. The first mention of the Schloss in an official
document dates back to 1350. It is a 5* hotel.
Dinner recommendation: Restaurant Peter's keller, adjacent to Sankt Peter's church and Abbey. No reservations are taken but you can stop by as
early as 5 PM to put your name on the list. Atmosphere, not gourmet food here (except desserts).
